Abstract

In this article we propose to reconstruct perspectives, approaches, objects, themes and problems that organized the research and debate agenda in the field of social studies of sport in Argentina in the last decade. Since the mid-1980s, sport has been taking shape as a space from which to see and analyze social, economic, political and cultural phenomena. The years 1990 and 2000 will be marked by the first efforts to institutionalize sport as an area of inquiry for the Social Sciences, soccer being the object that monopolized the first investigations, and violence the central concern of the analysis. Starting in the 2010s, there was an increase and diversification of topics and problems together with the growth in funding for research, graduate and postgraduate theses, and academic training. Beyond the historical reconstruction, this article proposes to account for the current map of productions in the field of social studies of sport in Argentina, its persistence (in the issues and problems investigated) and the emergence of new ways of articulating scientific production with the public policy agenda in the face of transformations in the relationship with the object and, also, of the contemporary social world.
