Abstract

The Galerías Pacífico murals, painted by Taller de Arte Mural (TAM) in 1946, were the rst and the only collective experience which the group carried out. Despite this ephemeral life, these paintings were considered as a new art conception with a social meaning and, at the same time, were contemplated as an event of cultural significance for the country. In the nineties, building reforms that turned the palace into a shopping center required the extraction of the four murals that were in the main entrances of the Galerías. These pieces were stored for more than fteen years, without the correct conservation conditions. In 2010 Centro Tarea, belonging to the Universidad Nacional de San Martín, began the restoration project of these paintings. The value of these artworks and their critical condition demanded not only a technically complex work, but also an ethical and aesthetic decision.
