Abstract

The artistic foundry during the Second Reign in Rio de Janeiro appears as a theme scarcely studied by historiography and traditionally understood as a phenomenon almost nonexistent. Through this article we show, with unpublished documents, how, despite not being a consolidated or very productive industry, the artistic foundry is a recurring phenomenon throughout the 19th century in Rio de Janeiro, with important founders and works, which are part of a desire for progress and civilization within of a complaint by the national about the lack of orders, the lack of incentives and support.
