Sobre la revista

El objetivo de Etnografías Contemporáneas es promover la reflexión en torno a las diferentes problemáticas relativas a las ciencias sociales, en general, y a la antropología, en particular. Dentro de este marco, cada número ofrece un espacio para la publicación de artículos, ensayos bibliográficos, reseñas y un dossier temático. La revista está dirigida a estudiantes, docentes, profesionales, investigadores y público académico en general interesado en temas ligados a la disciplina antropológica.

En cuanto a la extensión, los artículos podrán tener hasta 60.000 caracteres sin espacios como máximo (incluidas las notas a pie y la bibliografía). 

Los trabajos podrán redactarse en español o en portugués. 

Los resúmenes obligatorios en español y en inglés de los artículos no deberán superar las 200 palabras y deberán estar acompañados de entre tres y cinco palabras clave en ambos idiomas, separadas por coma y con punto final. 

El autor excluirá del cuerpo del texto y de la bibliografía toda referencia a su identidad sustituyéndola con el término “autor”. Asimismo, enviará en documento aparte el título del trabajo con sus datos completos, junto con un curriculum vitae redactado (máximo cinco líneas), la afiliación institucional (sin siglas) del autor o los autores y una dirección de correo electrónico de contacto.

PROCESO DE REVISIÓN POR PARES

Todos los trabajos serán evaluados en primera instancia por el Comité Editorial. Los originales que se presenten para las secciones referadas (Dossier y Artículos) estarán sujetos a un proceso de arbitraje externo, sistema de “doble ciego”, para garantizar el anonimato de autores y evaluadores. El dictamen determinará si el trabajo se acepta sin cambios para su publicación, si su aceptación queda condicionada a la introducción de cambios formales o sustantivos, o si es rechazado. En caso de controversias en los dictámenes de los evaluadores, el comité editorial solicitará un tercer referato para que defina la publicación o el rechazo del trabajo. El resultado del proceso de evaluación es inapelable. 

 

POLÍTICA DE ACCESO ABIERTO

Etnografías Contemporáneas adhiere a la definición de "acceso abierto" de la Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI).

La revista sostiene su compromiso con las políticas de Acceso Abierto a la información científica, al considerar que tanto las publicaciones científicas como las investigaciones financiadas con fondos públicos deben circular en Internet en forma libre, gratuita y sin restricciones.

No se cobran cargos ni tasas por la publicación de artículos. Etnografías Contemporáneas ratifica el modelo Acceso Abierto en el que los contenidos de las publicaciones científicas se encuentran disponibles a texto completo libre y gratuito en Internet, sin embargos temporales, y cuyos costos de producción editorial no son transferidos a los autores. Esta política propone quebrar las barreras económicas que generan inequidades tanto en el acceso a la información, como en la publicación de resultados de investigaciones y prácticas extensionistas que persigan o se encuadren en las normas editoriales de la revista.

NORMAS ÉTICAS

CÓDIGO DE CONDUCTA Y BUENAS PRÁCTICAS

Etnografias Contemporáneas adhiere al Código de conducta y buenas prácticas establecido por el Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) (Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors y Code of Conduct for Journals Publishers).  El código atañe al equipo editorial, autoras/es y evaluadoras/es. Los artícullos y reseñas que no cumplan con estas normas éti cas no serán publicados.
Declaración de ética editorial y buenas prácticas

I. Responsabilidades de los/as autores  

Los autores deberán garantizar lo siguiente:
1º El manuscrito presentado es original, no está siendo evaluado en otras revistas y las referencias y datos incluidos se han citado de manera adecuada siguiendo las normas editoriales de la revista que se encuentran en la página web.
2º Los artículos y reseñas  remitidos a la Revista deben contener una descripción detallada de los procedimientos seguidos. No deben contener afirmaciones falsas o distorsionadas. 
3º Detallarán en el manuscrito las fuentes de apoyo financiero de la investigación. Asimismo, deben inlcuir un listado de conflictos de interés en el caso que esto aplique.
4º La información recabada para el artículo ha sido obtenida de manera ética.
5º Reconocerán como co-autores  a quienes hayan contribuido de manera sustancial al contenido del artículo
6º Seguirán las indicaciones que realice el equipo editorial a las fases de evaluación, observarán el cronograma de entregas de correcciones y revisiones.
7º Deberán tener autorización para reproducer material que no sea de su propiedad o autoría tales como: imagines, fotografías, mapas y gráficos.
8º La autoría de un artículo o reseña deberá ser e lresultado de los aportes sustanciales del autor/autora. Todos aquellos que hayan realizado contribuciones al mismo deben encontrarse listados como autoras/es. Asimismo, todas las personas listadas como autores deben haber aprebado el contenido del artículo antes de ser enviado para publicación y tener conocmiento del proceso de evaluación.

II. Responsabilidades de los/as evaluadores

1º Si el artículo que se solicita evaluar es objeto de conflicto de intereses lo indicarán de inmediato.
2º Los/ las evaluadores comunicarán sus comentarios de manera objetiva, respetuosa y fundamentada. Los comentarios volcados deben estar libres de opiniones personales o juicios de valor.
3º Los/las evaluadores indicaran referencias relevantes que no hayan sido incluidos en el artículo.
4º El resultado de la evaluación se tratará con confidencialidad.
5º No se utilizará o divulgará información contenida en el artículo antes de su publicación.
6º Informarán a los editores si consideran no estar capacitados para realizar la evaluación.
7º Informarán a los editores si observan malas conductas por parte de los autores de los artículos.

III.  Responsabilidades de los/as editores:

1º Los editores deberán tratar a todos los/las autores de forma igualitaria, sin que medie distincion de raza, género, orientación sexual, creencias religiosas, origen étnico, nacionalidad, o inclinación  política.
2º Informarán a los/las autoras sobre el avance de la evaluación. Enviarán los comentarios completes de los evaluadores, except cuando sean ofensivos o difamatorios.
3º En caso que el Comité Editorial detecte imprecisiones o errorrs en artículos es su responsabilidad informar a los miembros del comité para proceder a la correccion o retracción según sea necesario.
4º Deberán estar libres de cualquier conflicto de interés relacionado con los/las autores, el artículo o sus financiadores, que influya en su decisión de aceptar o rechazar un artículo.  De tener un un impedimento insalvable, deberán manifestarlo y retirarse de la evaluación de un trabajo particular.
5º Asegurarán la confidencialidad de los autores de los artículos desde que son recibidos hasta que concluya su evaluación.
6º La decisión de aceptar, rechazar o aceptar con cambios recae sobre el Comité Editorial, basado en la evaluación qeu realiza de la originalidad y  contribución del  artículo.
7º Ante sospechas de plagio, el Comité hara uso del software gratuito para la detección del mismo: http://plagiarism-detect.com/
8º Se protegerá la propiedad intelectual y derechos de autor de los artículos y reseñas.

IV. Sobre la ética editorial

1º El Comité Editorial se compromete a no publicar  artículos o reseñas que contengan componentes de plagio o fraude o que incluyan autoría ficticia.
2º El Comite Editorial asume la responsabilidad de respetar el cumplimiento de las normas y procedimientos contenidos en esta declaración.
3º Los/las autores que deseen retirar un artículo o reseña deberán comunicarse con el Comité Editorial manifestando su deseo y explicando los motivos de su solicitud. El   Comité Editorial analizará el caso y publicará una nota  de retracción   identificable en la tabla de contenidos y los servicios de indexación.

 

ADHESIÓN A CÓDIGOS DE ÉTICA INTERNACIONALES CÓDIGO DE BUENAS PRÁCTICAS

Las decisiones editoriales no serán afectadas por el origen del manuscrito o por características de los autores como nacionalidad, género, orientación sexual, origen étnico, raza, creencias religiosas o filosofía política de los autores.

La decisión de publicar un artículo es independiente de políticas gubernamentales o de otras agencias fuera de la revista.

Responsabilidades de los editores

1. Deberán responsabilizarse de lo que se publica en su revista. Deberán buscar maneras de mejorar la revista, atender las necesidades y preguntas de los autores, impedir que otras necesidades no académicas comprometan las normas éticas de la revista, estar dispuestos a publicar correcciones, aclaraciones, rectificaciones y disculpas, si es necesario.
2. Mantendrán accesibles la descripción del proceso de evaluación y la guía de procedimientos para someter un artículo a evaluación (enlace a diagrama sobre evaluación).
3. Asegurarán la confidencialidad de los autores de los manuscritos desde que son recibidos hasta que concluya su evaluación.
4. Protegerán la propiedad intelectual y derechos de autor de los manuscritos.
5. Utilizarán herramientas adecuadas, como programas antiplagio —por ejemplo, Turnitin—, para detectar malas conductas científicas de los autores.
6. Solicitarán a los evaluadores que comenten malas conductas de los autores.
7. Informarán al autor sobre el avance de la evaluación.
8. Enviarán a los autores los comentarios íntegros de los evaluadores, excepto cuando son ofensivos o difamatorios.
9. Informarán al autor la fase del proceso editorial en la que se encuentra su artículo.
10. No usarán ni divulgarán información de los artículos antes de ser publicados, sin consentimiento previo del autor.

Responsabilidades de los integrantes del Comité editorial

1. La decisión de aceptar o rechazar un artículo se basará en su calidad, claridad, originalidad y relevancia de su publicación en la revista.
2. Los miembros del Comité establecerán los parámetros editoriales y los revisarán con frecuencia para que la revista mantenga su calidad.
3. Los nuevos miembros del Comité editorial no podrán revertir decisiones de publicación tomadas antes de su incorporación, a menos que el manuscrito en cuestión presente problemas serios.
4. No revelarán la identidad de los autores hasta que los artículos se publiquen.
5. Mantendrán en anonimato los nombres de los evaluadores.
6. Asegurarán que los manuscritos sean revisados por evaluadores apropiados.
7. Garantizarán que el proceso de evaluación sea objetivo, claro y transparente.
8. Resolverán cualquier controversia que surja durante el proceso de evaluación.
9. Publicarán correcciones, aclaraciones, rectificaciones y disculpas, si es necesario.
10. Si detectan malas conductas científicas de los autores, lo comunicarán de inmediato a los editores.
11. Publicarán cómo han resuelto las controversias o casos de autores que no observen las cláusulas de este código de conducta.

Responsabilidades de los autores

1. Los autores deberán garantizar que:

• Su manuscrito no ha sido publicado y que no está siendo evaluado en otras publicaciones.
• La información contenida en el manuscrito ha sido recolectada de manera ética.
• El artículo presentado es original y que las referencias y datos de otros trabajos se han citado de manera adecuada.

2. Reconocerán como coautores a quienes hayan participado de manera significativa en el contenido del artículo.
3. Darán el crédito correspondiente a los traductores de todo o partes del artículo.
4. Manifestarán en el manuscrito las fuentes de apoyo financiero de la investigación.
5. Seguirán las indicaciones para presentar artículos, publicadas en el sitio web de la revista y definidas por el Comité editorial.
6. Seguirán las indicaciones de las fases de la evaluación y observarán los tiempos de entrega de correcciones y cotejos.
7. Deberán asegurarse de tener en su poder las autorizaciones para reproducir e imprimir el material que no sea de su propiedad o autoría (gráficas, mapas, diagramas, fotografías, etcétera).
8. Firmarán una carta en la que autorizan a la revista editar, publicar y distribuir su artículo en medios impresos y electrónicos.

 Responsabilidades de los evaluadores

1. Si el manuscrito que se les ha solicitado evaluar es objeto de conflicto de intereses, lo manifestarán de inmediato.
2. Informarán al editor si consideran no estar capacitados para realizar la evaluación.
3. Comunicarán a los editores si detectan malas conductas científicas en el manuscrito.
4. Expresarán sus comentarios de manera clara, objetiva y respetuosa en el formato de evaluación que la revista les proporcione.
5. Realizarán la evaluación y notificarán el resultado en 30 días naturales.
6. Tratarán el resultado de la evaluación con confidencialidad.
7. No utilizarán ni divulgarán la información contenida en el manuscrito antes de su publicación.

Se consideran malas prácticas científicas:

Falta de ética en el proceso de publicación

- Autoría ficticia: figurar como autores o coautores de investigaciones no realizadas.

- Publicación duplicada: publicar la totalidad o una parte de un artículo ya publicado.

- Publicación fragmentada: dividir un trabajo para publicar como artículos independientes.

- Publicación inflada: añadir datos a un trabajo previamente publicado para publicar como nuevo artículo.

- Autoplagio: repetir el mismo contenido escrito anteriormente por el autor con la intención de publicar como nuevo artículo.

Fraude científico

- Invención: elaborar la totalidad o parte de los datos.

- Falsificación y manipulación de datos: falsificar datos o métodos para que cumpla la hipótesis.

- Plagio: tomar ideas o frases sin citar la fuente original.

- Incorrección de citas bibliográficas: omitir citas relevantes. Incluir citas no consultadas. Exceso de autocitas.

- Sesgos de publicación: forzar datos para obtener resultados positivos y una alta significancia estadística.

- Publicidad: exponer resultados prematuros (sin comprobación).

Los manuscritos que incurran en estas prácticas no serán evaluados. El editor escribirá al autor, explicará que se rechaza el artículo, la postura de la revista ante estos casos y el comportamiento esperado en el futuro. También informará al evaluador.

Si se detecta que se copiaron frases de menor extensión y no hay indicios de que los datos de otros han sido ofrecidos como obra propia, el editor escribirá al autor y solicitará que modifique esas partes o que indique las citas con claridad. También informará al evaluador. Si el autor se niega a corregir el manuscrito, se rechazará el artículo, se explicará la postura de la revista ante estos casos y el comportamiento esperado en el futuro.

OPEN ACCESS POLICY

Contemporary Ethnographies adheres to the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) definition of "open access".

The journal maintains its commitment to Open Access policies to scientific information, considering that both scientific publications and research financed with public funds must circulate on the Internet freely, free of charge and without restrictions.

There are no charges or fees for publishing articles. The journal Etnografías Contemporáneas ratifies the Open Access model in which the contents of scientific publications are available in full text free of charge on the Internet, without temporary embargoes, and whose editorial production costs are not transferred to the authors. This policy proposes to break down the economic barriers that generate inequalities both in access to information and in the publication of research results and extension practices that pursue or fall within the editorial standards of the journal.

 ETHICAL STANDARDSCODE OF CONDUCT AND GOOD PRACTICES

Etnografías Contemporáneas adheres to the Code of Conduct and Best Practices established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) (Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors and Code of Conduct for Journals Publishers). The code concerns the editorial team, authors and evaluators. Articles and reviews that do not comply with these ethical standards will not be published.

Declaration of editorial ethics and good practice

1. Responsibilities of the authors

Authors must ensure the following:

1º The manuscript presented is original, it is not being evaluated in other journals and the references and data included have been cited properly following the editorial standards of the journal found on the website.

2º Articles and reviews submitted to the journal must contain a detailed description of the procedures followed. They must not contain false or distorted statements.

3º The sources of financial support for the research will be detailed in the manuscript. Likewise, they must include a list of conflicts of interest if this applies.

4º The information collected for the article has been obtained ethically.

5º Authors will acknowledge as co-authors those who have contributed substantially to the content of the article

6º Authors will follow the instructions provided by the editorial team to the evaluation phases, and will observe the  schedule of corrections and revisions.

7º Authors must have authorization to reproduce material that is not their property or authorship, such as: images, photographs, maps and graphs.

8º The authorship of an article or review must be the result of the substantial contributions of the author. All those who have made contributions to it must be listed as authors. Likewise, all people listed as authors must have approved the content of the article before it is sent for publication and be aware of the evaluation process.

1. Responsibilities of the reviewers

1º If the article that is requested to be evaluated is subject to a conflict of interest, they will indicate it immediately.

2º The reviewers will communicate their comments in an objective, respectful and well-founded manner. Comments posted must be free of personal opinions or value judgments.

3º The reviewers will indicate relevant references that have not been included in the article.

4º The result of the evaluation will be treated confidentially.

5º Information contained in the article will not be used or disclosed before its publication.

6º Reviewers will inform the editors if they consider they are not qualified to carry out the evaluation.

7º They will inform the editors if they observe misconduct on the part of the authors of the articles.

III. Editors' responsibilities:

1º Editors must treat all authors equally, without distinction of race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, ethnic origin, nationality, or political inclination.

2º They will inform the authors about the progress of the evaluation. They will send the complete comments of the reviewers, except when they are offensive or defamatory.

3º In the event that the Editorial Committee detects inaccuracies or errors in articles, it is its responsibility to inform the members of the committee to proceed with the correction or retraction as necessary.

4º They must be free of any conflict of interest related to the authors, the article or their funders, which influences their decision to accept or reject an article. If they have an insurmountable impediment, they must express it and withdraw from the evaluation of a particular work.

5º They will ensure the confidentiality of the authors of the articles from the moment they are received until their evaluation is completed.

6º The decision to accept, reject or accept with changes falls on the Editorial Committee, based on its evaluation of the originality and contribution of the article.

7º If there are suspicions of plagiarism, the Committee will use the free software to detect it: http://plagiarism-detect.com/

8º The intellectual property and copyright of the articles and reviews will be protected.

1. About editorial ethics

1º The Editorial Committee will not publish articles or reviews that contain components of plagiarism or fraud or that include fictitious authorship.

2º The Editorial Committee assumes the responsibility of respecting compliance with the standards and procedures contained in this declaration.

3º Authors who wish to withdraw an article or review of book must contact the Editorial Committee expressing their desire and explaining the reasons for their request. The Editorial Committee will analyze the case and publish an identifiable retraction note in the table of contents and indexing services.

ADHERENCE TO INTERNATIONAL CODES OF ETHICS CODE OF GOOD PRACTICES

Editorial decisions will not be affected by the origin of the manuscript or by characteristics of the authors such as nationality, gender, sexual orientation, ethnic origin, race, religious beliefs or political philosophy of the authors.

The decision to publish an article is independent of government policies or other agencies outside the journal.

Editors' Responsibilities

1. They must take responsibility for what is published in their journal. They should look for ways to improve the journal, address the needs and questions of the authors, prevent other non-academic needs from compromising the ethical standards of the journal, and be willing to publish corrections, clarifications, rectifications and apologies, if necessary.
2. They will keep accessible the description of the review process and the procedural guide for submitting an article for evaluation (link to evaluation diagram).
3. They will ensure the confidentiality of the authors of the manuscripts from the moment they are received until their evaluation is completed.
4. They will protect the intellectual property and copyright of the manuscripts.
5. They will use appropriate tools, such as anti-plagiarism programs - for example, Turnitin - to detect scientific misconduct by authors.
6. They will ask the reviewers to comment on the authors' misconduct.
7. They will inform the author about the progress of the evaluation.
8. They will send the full comments of the reviewers to the authors, except when they are offensive or defamatory.
9. They will inform the author of the phase of the editorial process in which their article is.
10. They will not use or disclose information from the articles before they are published, without prior consent from the author.

Responsibilities of the members of the Editorial Committee

1. The decision to accept or reject an article will be based on its quality, clarity, originality and relevance to its publication in the journal.
2. The members of the Committee will establish the editorial parameters and review them frequently so that the journal maintains its quality.
3. New members of the Editorial Committee will not be able to reverse publication decisions made before their incorporation, unless the manuscript in question presents serious problems.
4. They will not reveal the identity of the authors until the articles are published.
5. The names of the reviewers will be kept anonymous.
6. They will ensure that manuscripts are reviewed by appropriate referees.
7. They will guarantee that the evaluation process is objective, clear and transparent.
8. They will resolve any controversy that arises during the evaluation process.
9. They will publish corrections, clarifications, rectifications and apologies, if necessary.
10. If they detect scientific misconduct by the authors, they will immediately communicate it to the editors.
11. They will publish how they have resolved controversies or cases of authors who do not observe the clauses of this code of conduct.

Author Responsibilities

1. Authors must ensure that:

• The manuscript has not been published and is not being evaluated in other publications.
• The information contained in the manuscript has been collected ethically.
• The article presented is original and the references and data from other works have been cited appropriately.

2. They will acknowledge as co-authors those who have participated significantly in the content of the article.
3. They will give the corresponding credit to the translators of all or parts of the article.
4. The sources of financial support for the research will be stated in the manuscript.
5. They will follow the instructions for submitting articles, published on the magazine's website and defined by the Editorial Committee.
6. They will follow the indications of the evaluation phases and observe the delivery times for corrections and comparisons.
7. They must ensure that they have authorizations to reproduce and print material that is not their property or authorship (graphs, maps, diagrams, photographs, etc.).
8. They will sign a letter authorizing the magazine to edit, publish and distribute their article in print and electronic media.

  Evaluators' Responsibilities

1. If the manuscript that they have been asked to evaluate is subject to a conflict of interest, they will disclose it immediately.
2. They will inform the editor if they consider they are not qualified to carry out the evaluation.
3. They will inform the editors if they detect scientific misconduct in the manuscript.
4. They will express their comments in a clear, objective and respectful manner in the evaluation format that the magazine provides them.
5. They will carry out the evaluation and notify the result within 30 calendar days.
6. They will treat the result of the evaluation with confidentiality.
7. They will not use or disclose the information contained in the manuscript before its publication.

The following are considered bad scientific practices:

Lack of ethics in the publication process

Fictitious authorship: appearing as authors or co-authors of unconducted research.

Duplicate publication: publishing all or part of an article already published.

Fragmented publication: divide a work to publish as independent articles.

Inflated publication: adding data to a previously published work to publish as a new article.

Self-plagiarism: repeating the same content previously written by the author with the intention of publishing it as a new article.

Scientific fraud

Invention: elaborate all or part of the data.

Data falsification and manipulation: falsifying data or methods so that the hypothesis is met.

Plagiarism: taking ideas or phrases without citing the original source.

Incorrectness of bibliographic citations: omit relevant citations. Include quotes not consulted. Excessive self-citations.

Publication biases: forcing data to obtain positive results and high statistical significance.

Advertising: expose premature results (without verification).

Manuscripts that engage in these practices will not be evaluated. The editor will write to the author, explaining that the article is rejected, the journal's position in these cases and the expected behavior in the future. He will also inform the evaluator.

If it is detected that sentences of shorter length have been copied and there is no indication that the data of others has been offered as their own work, the editor will write to the author and request that they modify those parts or indicate the citations clearly. It will also inform the evaluator. If the author refuses to correct the manuscript, the article will be rejected, the journal's position in these cases and the expected behavior in the future will be explained.

To resolve other cases not considered in this code of conduct, the editors and the editorial committee will take as reference the steps indicated by the Committee on Publication Ethics (https://publicationethics.org/files/Spanish%20%281%29.pdf ).

Etnografías Contemporáneas is published semiannually. The first issue of the year covers the period January-June, while the second covers the period July-December.
