Abstract

This text tests the method of the philosophy of social sciences on an object that currently needs it: the transformations of the relations between market and State, between economy and politics, exactly as they appear through the sovereign debt crisis in Europe. It is this perspective the one that suggests a reading of Wolfgang Streeck’s book, Buying Time. This reading allows to make a philosophical diagnosis on the current evolutions of the European policies and to draw from that work a more positive feature, one less unilaterally critical that the one is usually highlighted. In particular, it shows that under the concept of consolidation state underlies a different idea of the State, one linked to the social as a consistent plan of reality –and, for this reason, having a sociological nature– that serves as evaluative rule. This idea is also the basis of a different conception of Europe, which can be then more consciously fixed.
