Società e organismo: Alle origini dell’evoluzionismo sociologico

Abstract

The article focuses on how the notion of society as an organism in Spencer can be used for both analytical and practical purposes. It is therefore possible to investigate social phenomena like any organic phenomenon, and it is possible to reject any initiative that is not implicit in their fundamental physiological dynamics. In short, political physics is possible, in the sense of an action that invests a naturalness, that is, the processes that are naturally at work, regularities already present in the world. In this sense, the legitimacy of the new form of society is found by Spencer in the evolutionary nature of its rationalization, which should guarantee ever greater happiness for the greatest number of people.
